Out N Gone Scores Top Qualifying Time in Zia Derby Trials at Ruidoso Down Race Track
Out N Gone, a three-year-old gelding, dominated a field of Zia Derby contenders in the 5th trial race Saturday at Ruidoso Downs Race Track by scoring a two-and-a-quarter length win in the fastest time of the day, 19.647 seconds for 400-yards.
“The horse ran as well as he could have and showed that he’s on the upswing,” trainer Heath Taylor said. “He’s blossomed into a very nice horse. I understand that this qualifying field has some exceptional state-bred talent, so he’ll have his work cut out for him coming back.”
Bettors made Out N Gone a 2-1 co-favorite in the trial race and the gelding paid $6.00, $3.20 and $2.40. Jockey Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo rode Out N Gone to a second career win in eight starts for owner David Mora and Cream Of The Crop Inc.
Other qualifiers include: Fanncee in 19.712; Bigg Dee in 19.712; Eagles and Dragons in 19.742; Roll Big River in 19.84; Leading Cartel in 19.845; Hollyn Bootie in 19.846; Your Easy Jess in 19.899; Woodys Gold in 19.900 and Icy Morning Breeze in 19.940.
The $203,478 Zia Derby will be run on Saturday, July 31 as part of the Zia Festival, a weekend of racing designed with multiple New Mexico-bred stakes races plus vendors from across the state with products made in New Mexico. For more info visit www.raceruidoso.com.
