Rainbow Weekend Features Three Grade-1 Races At Ruidoso Downs Race Track Saturday and Sunday
The second-leg of quarter horse racing’s Triple Crown is at hand this weekend at Ruidoso Downs Race Track with the running of the $1 million Rainbow Futurity, $804,288 Rainbow Derby and $478,049 Rainbow Oaks.
On Sunday, the Rainbow Futurity 5/2 morning line favorite is expected to be Dark NME and jockey Francisco Calderon. The two-year-old filly goes for a second stakes victory having won Remington Park’s Oklahoma Breeder’s Futurity on April 22. Dark NME is undefeated in four starts for TYKHE Racing and trainer Santos Carrizales Jr. Dark NME will be number-seven in the eleventh race. Post time for Sunday’s twelve-race card is 12:30 p.m.
Saturday’s running of the Rainbow Derby brings Cyber Attack and jockey Educardo Nicasio back to the track going for a sixth consecutive win for the Rosenthal Ranch and trainer Chris O’Dell.
The three-year-old colt has seven career wins and $1.5 million in earnings having been named the 2022 AQHA two-year-old champion. Cyber Attack is the 2-1 morning line favorite and will be number-three in the tenth race on Saturday.
The Rainbow Oaks for fillies-only features 5/2 morning line choice Cartel Kisses and jockey Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo, winner of the Los Alamitos Oaks on March 25 for owners Larry and Roberta Parker-Rice and trainer Heath Tayor. The three-year-old filly has nine career wins and earnings of $400,000. Post time on Saturday is 1 p.m.
The weekend begins with Friday’s ten-race card of thoroughbred and quarter horse races with post time at 1 p.m. Ruidoso Downs welcomes national television coverage of the races this weekend on the Cowboy Channel Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. (mt).
