Stable Notes by Mike Ahrens: Saturday, May 29, 2021
Much like Friday, the day started with a decent tailwind which eventually switched to a headwind. Unlike yesterday, however, following the move to a headwind for races 8 through 10 the weather changed back to a mix of tailwind and crosswind. Also unlike yesterday, when trainer Trey Wood had no runners qualify for the finals or consolation, today he produced two qualifiers for the finals, including the day's fastest time when Revenant Moon kicked off the card winning in 17.462. "I was confident that if they're in the 40s they're qualifying," he said, so despite being in the first race and having to wait out another 15 there were no fears about that runner making the finals.
Trainer Wes Giles qualified one for the finals, but not with the horse he had anticipated. In the 8th race, Bf Shes Outrageous caught the brief bit of headwind during the middle of the card, won by two in an impressive performance but just not quick enough. "I love that filly," he said. "I thought she ran great. We got caught in the wrong race." But he does have Kj Desparado going into the finals and added that he ran a good race as well, good enough for the second-fastest time of the day.
