Dashing Tres Upsets Rainbow Derby Field Today at Downs of Albuquerque         

Dashing Tres and jockey Juan Pulido upset a field of top three-year-old quarter horses in the $796,229 Grade-1 Rainbow Derby today at the Downs of Albuquerque.

       “It wasn’t a great start,” Pulido said in the winner’s circle. “We broke out and when we straightened out my horse just started running and kept getting stronger.”

       The gelding defeated stablemate Visa and jockey Edwin Escobedo by a neck and the heavy- favorite Dark NME finished third.

        Dashing Tres has won five races in eight career starts for owner Bob McClure and trainer Toby Keeton. The gelding is sired by Tempting Dash out of the mare Sissy Tres Girl by Tres Seis. Dashing Tres was third in the Ruidoso Derby earlier this season at Ruidoso Downs and ran fifth in last year’s All American Futurity as a two-year-old.

       The gelding paid $22.80, $10.40 and $4.00 in a running time of 21.185 seconds for 440-yards.

        In the $175,000 Grade-II Zia Derby, Solid and jockey Adrian Ramos beat the field of New Mexico-bred three-year-old quarter horses by a half-length in a time of 19.545 seconds for 400-yards. Solid has won three of four career starts for owners Pierre and Leslie Amestoy and trainer Wes Giles.

        Solid is sired by Big Daddy Cartel out of the mare Paint Your Moon by First Moonflash. The gelding paid $5.60, $3.00 and $2.80 to win.

      In the $100,000 Rainbow Invitational, RJ Having Fun and jockey Pulido held off a late charge by Mitey Relentless and jockey Luis Martinez to win by a head in a winning time of 21.453 seconds for 440-yards. The two-year-old is owned and trained by Toby Keeton.

      Rj Having Fun is sired by PYC Fun N Fancy out of the mare Snow Clouds by This Snow is Royal. The gelding paid $2.80, $2.40 and $2.10.

      The $50,000 Sierra Starlet for thoroughbred fillies at five furlongs was won by Trust Anabelle and jockey Felipe Valdez for owner and trainer Filberto Quiroz. The filly has two wins and two seconds in five career starts and paid $10.00, $5.20 and $3.20 in a time of 58.28 seconds.

      Trust Anabelle is sired Unbridled Trust out of the mare Annie P by Roll Hennessy Roll.

      Flash Bak and jockey Francisco Calderon stormed home a winner in the Grade-II $40,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes by a half-length in a time of 19.193 seconds for 400 yards. Flash Bak is owned by Sammy Valeriano and trained by Heath Taylor, winning for the thirteenth time in the six-year-old’s career. The gelding has earnings of over $2 million.

      Flash Bak paid $3.00, $2.40 and $2.10. Flash Bak is sired by Moonin The Eagle out of the mare Checkenbac by Check Him Out.   

       Racing continues on Sunday at the Downs of Albuquerque with twelve races on the card including the $480,000 Rainbow Oaks for three-year-old fillies. Post time is 12:30 p.m.
