Flashin Fire Top Qualifier in the Zia Futurity Trials Friday at Ruidoso Downs Race Track
Flashin Fire, a two-year-old gelding, survived a light bump out of the gate and picked up the pace down the stretch to win the fifth trial race of the afternoon at Ruidoso Downs Race Track Friday while being clocked with the fastest time of the day of 19.721 seconds for 400-yards.
Flashin Fire surprised bettors going off at 8-1. He paid a whopping $18.60, 12.60 and $10.60 in scoring his first win in three attempts.
“We claimed the horse in his first start at Remington Park,” owner Jose Guzman said. “This is the first time he’s been clear from the gate that he showed he could run.”
All three of the top finishers in the fifth race qualified for the finals that will be run on Sunday, August 1. The others are Wine Don’t Lie in 19.779 seconds, and First Feature in 19.930 seconds.
