Stable Notes by Mike Ahrens: Friday, August 28, 2020
No stakes action this weekend, but that's just the calm before the storm as next weekend is closing weekend and you know what that means.
The little bit of blood that was near the quarter of Cers' Final Try's right front following his Derby trial victory turned out to be "nothing much," per trainer Tony Sedillo. "He just scraped himself a little higher up, just on the surface and it healed up good. Now we just have to cross our fingers."
In All American Futurity news, last week we saw Eagles and Dragons put it all together in his trial to run straight after two efforts that saw the gelding win but drifting all over the track. Trainer Juan M. Gonzalez's son Juan Carlos said "we used a rougher bit and a larger shadow roll," to help get him on track and running straight. "Jaime [Leos, his regular rider] took him to the track every time" in preparation for the trial and "taught him to follow the rider more." It seemed to pay off as he made a bee line for the wire in the fourth
fastest time of that day of trials.
