1) Dazzingly in #7 the 1st (6-1):

Trainer Blane Wood and jockey Ricky Ramirez break tons of horses on the family’s ranch near Lubbock, Texas, in the winter so he can basically tell you which of his youngsters are just a step or two quicker. Blane has a check-mark on this filly’s name before she enters the gate the first time.

2) EC Fama #8 in the 3rd (7/2):

This gelding was originally scheduled for the Heritage Place Futurity but trainer Heath Taylor persuaded the owner William Smith to wait till summer. “When Ruidoso Downs announced they were going to run, we decided to the gelding a little more time to mature,” Taylor said. Taylor has a “gut feeling” about EC Fama because his mother, First Carolina, has produced several top performers in his barn previously. “He’s happy in the mountains, and we hope we’ve got something special.”

3) Jesslightninglegs #2 in the 9th (9/2):

Impressed in her schooling work here May 7th and trainer Mike Joiner has pegged this gelding as one of the fastest in his barn. The gelding is owned by Luke Goebel of Oakville, Texas who has owns a metal building construction and welding company in Three Rivers. “Mike never says too much until after they run so you don’t get your hopes up,” Goebel said. “But he did with this horse. He called and told me that he believes this horse has some talent.” 

4) Jess Send Him #7 in the 11th (5-1):

The Cavenaugh family (owners of several car dealerships in Arkansas) were new to the quarter horse game last year and were lucky enough to own Uncle D, winner of the All American Juvenile, and favored to win his Derby trial on Sunday. They are hoping that good fortune strikes twice with this top quality youngster. 

5) Best Moonflash #2 in the 14th (5/2):

Surprised everyone at 11-1 odds in winning a maiden race at Remington in April. Chartwriter’s comment was, “impressive second gear”. “We didn’t have a horse that could put ahead in front of her when she was being broke,” John Stinebaugh said. “She’s still a little green but plenty quick.”
