Reef Ridge Scores Top Qualifying Time in Zia Futurity Trials at Ruidoso Downs Race Track
Ruidoso Downs, NM—Reef Ridge, a two-year-old gelding, broke on top and held off the field by a length-and-a-half to win the tenth race today and qualify for the finals of the $379,410 Zia Futurity at Ruidoso Downs Race Track. “The less I did with this horse the better he ran,” jockey Ricky Ramirez said. “This horse has genuine speed—there’s not much you can do but hold on.”
The victory and top-recorded time of 19.696 seconds for 400-yards sets up a rematch with Mountain Top Futurity champion Pick Your Pour who also qualified for the Zia final by winning the 11th race in the second-fastest time of 19.726 seconds.
Reef Ridge finished second in the Mountain Top finals. Reef Ridge returned $2.80, $2.60 and $2.10. The gelding’s sire is Woodridge out of the mare Fast Copy Miss by Heza Fast Man. Reef Ridge is owned by E. Gene and Tod Bradley and trained by Trey Wood.
