Whistle Stop Café, the undefeated 2020 All American Futurity champion filly, has been entered in trials for the $374,363 Rainbow Oaks at 440-yards to be held next Sunday at Ruidoso Downs Race Track.

The three-year-old filly will be number-three in the fourth race and marks the first time back to the track since her sixth straight victory last Labor Day, September 6th.

“The filly doesn’t need to earn another dollar,” trainer Trey Wood said. “We wanted to give her a long rest and bring her back without pressure. Entering in the Oaks gives her the opportunity to get a couple races under her before we decide about either the All American Oaks or Derby later in August.”

Whistle Stop Café is owned by Whitmire Ranch. Her sire is Freighttrain B out of the mare Sinuous by Mr Jess Perry for breeder Bobby Cox.  In six career starts she has lifetime earnings of $1,939, 268.

As for the $678,253 Rainbow Derby trials at 440-yards, Ruidoso Derby champion Empressum returns as number-one in the thirteenth race on Sunday for owners and breeders Jeff Jones and Steve Holt.

“Empressum is doing extremely well coming out of the Ruidoso Derby and when you’re ready to run and there’s a purse of nearly $700,000 you get right back in the gate if that’s what the horse is telling you to do,” trainer Heath Taylor said.

Empressum has eight wins in eleven career starts with earnings of $500,825. He broke the track record in his Ruidoso Derby trial race on May 30 running 400-yards in a time of 19.149 seconds. The gelding’s sire is Apollitical Jess out of the mare Crazy Down Corona by First Down Dash.

There will be five Oaks trials and eight Derby trials to make up the thirteen race card. First post will be Noon on Sunday.
